Mario Kart 8 is a fast paced, action-packed, exhilarating racing game. The game came out in 2014, but was redesigned in 2017 for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 is one of the Wii U’s best sellers. It is the eighth installment to the Mario Kart game series and offers single player and multiplayer modes in which every selected character ever created in the Mario video game franchise is inserted in the game to race against one another. The game is based off of Mario and friend’s characters fending off against each other finding tools in different box items while performing on different types of racing arenas.

The game includes four different types of difficulties: easy, normal, hard, and difficult. The difficulty tool is selected in the beginning of the selection menu before you race. From previous installments of the game, items returning for Mario Kart 8 are the motorbikes, hang gliders, customization for the vehicles, and underwater racing. Also in others previous installments, players can race up to twelve players.

New improvements in the game include anti-gravity racing, which allow players to race on walls, buildings and ceilings. With anti-gravitation, players can run into other opponents to use a speed boost, which gives your selected character an extra speed boost to catch up. New items in the game include a boomerang flower, eating piranha plant, and the crazy eight which you can obtain all eight items within the box. When racing there are selected items within the boxes and each box selects your item at random.

In the new multiplayer mode, players have the chance to play with up to twelve additional  players in an online setting. While online you can talk to fellow players all around the world while you’re racing. in Mario Kart 8 there are more opportunities to create and customize the races to what you like. Options include tournament customization, custom rules and regulations, scheduling races, and the ability to record games instantly  and upload them to YouTube. The game is nothing but a fun experience for old school, casual or advanced players even down to families. While the game is rated mature for players, it’s a game that is played by many different individuals.

The graphics and designs are perfect and top notched. More improvements in the graphics include new remodeled race tracks, buildings, and arenas. The game provides various types of arenas including “Luigi’s Ghost Mansion” which was also in the character’s first released game, Luigi’s Haunted Mansion, which was released on the Gameboy Advance. Other tracks from previous Nintendo platforms are also included like “Bowser’s Castle,” “Sweet Sweet Palace,” “Battle Stadium” and much more.

Mario Kart is an amazing racing game filled with endless opportunities for excitement and fun modes. The game is addicting and keeps you in a zone of not putting down that controller. It was fun when it was produced in 2014 but with the new graphic advances and multiplayer features the game takes a new turn. Although the previous Mario Kart games were fun to play, Mario Kart 8 reaches a new dynamic of advanced technology and improvements and is by far one of the best racing games within the series.
