On April 1, 2024, New England College held a candlelight vigil for two NEC graduates.

Sidney Capolino and Meghan Moore were killed in a murder-suicide on March 16, 2024. Capolino graduated from NEC in 2022, and Moore graduated in 2021. Both played women’s ice hockey at NEC.

A few of their former teammates described them as “big sisters” and “supportive” teammates and friends.

Graduate student Cassie Kelly shared words about her former teammates and the vigil.

“[The vigil] was a good opportunity for us to share what Meg and Sid were like with those who may not have gotten the chance to know them,” Kelly said. “Sid and Meg were very special to us all.”

NEC Athletic Director Dave Decew explained why he put together the vigil, and why it is important to the NEC community.

“It was a really important thing for our community because they were impacted in a really positive way by these two, and they wanted to make sure they had an opportunity collectively to come together and celebrate who and what they were,” Decew said.

Meg and Sid will continue to be remembered on the NEC campus.
