There is a Prince of Nigeria who lives on NEC’s campus. Mene Adumene is a junior who attends NEC, plays football, and is studying nursing.

Adumene was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and moved to Manchester, New Hampshire when he was six years old. His life at NEC looks a lot like most students: he has a routine, goes to class, and does the same things as anyone else; but when he gets to go home to Nigeria a few times each year he is treated like royalty.

“It is pretty cool, here it obviously doesn’t mean much but when I go back home like everyone knows who you are. We have a big compound, a bunch of houses, and people wait on you,” Adumene said.

Adumene’s father is the current chief of the Nigerian village. His father does not live in the village because he works and takes care of his family in the states, but a few times each year he travels to the village to make sure everything is going alright. Adumene said when the time comes, he will be the next chief of his village, but like his father he will work and live in the states.

“So where my family is from my dad is the chief of our village so it’s pretty cool what comes with that. I’m technically the prince because I’m my dads first son so you know, when he passes in a long time I’ll be the chief,” Adumene said.

The Prince also takes a lot of pride in playing football and it is one of his passions. He was awarded ‘All State Offensive Lineman’ his senior year. Adumene began his collegiate career at Curry College but then transferred to NEC in 2024. Adumene is now preparing for his senior season at NEC.
