There are big plans and new changes to the Charter Lounge. Rachael French, Director of the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) worked all summer fixing and upgrading the lounge to give it a more welcoming feeling for new and returning students.
French says this year’s renovations cost around $5,000 from the OSE budget.
“I basically go through every nook and cranny in here, clean, disinfect, reorganize, get rid of anything that’s kind of broken and junky, and just replenish the entire place so that its ready to use for orientation in August,” French said.
French went all out this year adding new stuff for students to enjoy in the lounge after spending long days in class.
“We have a lot of cool new stuff this year. First off, we got the air hockey table, that’s been a big success. We got a new ping pong net and paddles. We have four new sets of pool balls, we have new popcorn seasoning, and we have a few new board games,” French said.
This lounge renovation includes more than just activities for students, but also a place to study and relax.
“We got an 85 inch TV for students to either game or plug in their computers and do work on presentations,” French said.
Most of the additions to the lounge are the result of student requests.
“The air hockey table was sort of a long time coming. I heard from students that it would be fun to have in here,” French said.
