I sat down and had dinner with former state representative J.P. Marzullo, who I have come to know well over this past year as a student here at NEC. JP was always around, whether it was showing up to our games and supporting all NEC athletes or becoming a valued member of the football program. He has been a valued asset, from calling games live on the radio to serving as head coach Kevin Kelly’s right-hand advisor, a big step for the football program.

One thing most people who don’t know: JP played in the NFL for the New York Jets.

To me, JP has become more like NEC’s own mascot and someone who supports his good friend President Wayne Lesperance’s vision of NEC and its future. NEC made JP an honorary alumni in 2023 recognizing his loyalty, interest, and service to go above and beyond.

JP helps with athletics, has taught classes, and is the best person anyone can ask for.

JP has become a close friend over my time here. I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet him and get to know him and his wife, Donna. They strive to help the next generation. I am forever grateful to have met someone loyal, kind, and friendly, someone you can easily walk up to and have a conversation about anything. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next for the football program and how he can help NEC to their first-ever bowl win.

I’ll never forget one thing he told me that still makes me laugh.

“You’re so big you cast a shadow on me.”
