It’s a great achievement to have a daughter graduate from college, but for one employee at New England College, the 2026 Commencement ceremony was a special shared experience that brought home two degrees.

Melissa Gordon, NEC’s Executive Assistant to the President of VP and Advancement, not only got to celebrate her daughter’s graduation but also walked alongside her during this spring’s commencement of 2026, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

“Attending New England College alongside my daughter, Macy, was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life,” she said.

Melissa said the journey started by supporting Macy’s dream of becoming a basketball recruit.

“When Macy was accepted, I never imagined that I would also become part of the NEC family. First as an employee and then as a student myself. Graduating together is something I will cherish forever as both a mother and a professional,” Melissa said.

Macy was recruited by the women’s basketball team in 2022. She was named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and was honored as part of The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Academic Conference Team. Macy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, K-6. She is planning on staying close to home and wants to teach kindergarten.

Melissa will continue to work for NEC and serve as the Executive Assistant to the President of VP and Advancement. She said she loves her role there.

“Graduating together means a lot to me because it shows how much we both grew during our time at NEC. It is a memory and achievement we will always share,” Macy said.
