New England College has joined the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) conference for all sports starting in the fall of 2023.
“The understanding was that the NECC (New England Collegiate Conference) was essentially going to close the doors,” said athletic director Dave Decew. “You need a minimum of 7 (schools) to maintain a qualifying spot for the NCAA Tournament.”
All of the sports at NEC will be looking to stay competitive.
“We all have an opportunity to be the last NECC champs,” said junior Stephen Dunham. By going to a new conference with more schools, the ‘Grims will continue to be competitive.
“The schools are closer to us,” Decew said, so traveling will be easier within conference.
Overall, the GNAC will be featuring more teams which means more competition. The Pilgrims will look to remain competitive and win more championships!
