Candlelight vigil to remember two NEC graduates killed in shooting

Two New England College graduates and former NEC women’s ice hockey players were shot and killed in a murder-suicide on March 16, according to Miami-Dade Police.

Sidney Capolino (class of 2022) and Meghan Moore (class of 2021), were living in Miami, Florida at the time of the crime.

According to Miami-Dade police, Luis Napoles, 40, an acquaintance, shot Moore outside of the condominium where Capolino and Moore lived. Napoles then shot Capolino inside the condominium and proceeded to take his life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. All three were deceased at the scene of the crime.

NEC athletics posted this statement on their Instagram on March 19, three days after the passing of Megan Moore and Sidney Capolino.

NEC released statements in response to the news.

“Meghan and Sidney were known to many on campus, and we are deeply saddened by this devastating news,” NEC President Wayne Lesperance wrote in an email to the NEC community.

“We feel tremendously fortunate to have had these two young women in Henniker representing the Pilgrims. Please join us in honoring and remembering both Meg and Sid,” NEC athletics posted this statement on their Instagram.

There will be a candlelight vigil held for Capolino and Moore on April 1, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. in the Lee Clement Arena.
