NEC’s Women’s Basketball team had one of their highest scoring games of the season as they beat Regis College 84-60 at home Tuesday.

Heading into the game, the ‘Grims had a record of 8-11 while Regis sat at 5-13. Tuesday’s game was a big push for the ‘Grims as they fight for a playoff position.

“We are still looking for a few more wins to get us into the tournament,” said NEC head coach Erica Ledy.

The Grims came out strong early out of the gate. Senior Amya Moss was on fire in the first quarter which gave the team confidence and energy. The Grims had a comfortable lead at 30-16 through the first quarter. Moss hit two tough layups and ended the quarter with 12 points.

“I like to be the tone setter and a leader for my team, and once I do set the tone that’s when things start going well for us,” Moss said after the game. “Once my team and I are just having fun on the court playing together that is when you’ll see us play our best basketball.”

The team consistently hit shots on offense and outrebounded Regis the whole first half. By the end of the first half the ‘Grims had built their lead to 56-30.

After the halftime break, Regis showed some resilience as they tried to cut the ‘Grims lead. Midway through the third quarter the ‘Grims starters were pulled, which gave Regis a chance to close the gap. Ultimately, the ‘Grims starters returned to the game and closed it 84-60.

“I’m very proud of the teams rebounding and defense tonight, it has been our identity this season,” said Ledy.

Moss had three steals on the night.

“When Amya is playing like herself, she is almost un-guardable,” Ledy said, “I am very proud of Amya and the teams scoring tonight, we haven’t shot this well pretty much all season.”

The ‘Grims are 9-11 with five games left looking until the playoffs.
