Three NEC student athletes were recognized for their outstanding play by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference so far this season.

Daniel Varga was awarded player of the week for Men’s Lacrosse after posting an impressive 7-goal, 6-assist performance at Castleton on March 5. When asked how he felt about winning the award, he was focused on helping his team.

“It’s been an up and down season so far. The team has been a little up and down to start off the season. I have been trying to do as much as I can when I can to help get us a win. It paid off for sure when we played Castleton,” Varga said.

Mackenzie McDonald was awarded player of the week for Woman’s Lacrosse. She posted 15 goals with 6 assists in that stretch leading the team to a 3-1 start to the season. She takes pride in representing her teammates and hopes to bring more recognition to the team.

“It felt good to get recognized especially because I felt like NEC’s Women’s Lacrosse – no one really talks about it, but we have a lot of really talented players and actually a pretty good team. So, it’s nice to have that recognition for not just me but my whole team,” McDonald said.

Jaken Pellerin was the named Rookie of the Week for baseball. When asked about how he felt about winning Rookie of the Week, he was mostly excited to play baseball with his team.

“It was good…but most importantly I was with the boys having fun balling out. That’s all that’s really important to me,” Pellerin said.
