Boos and Brews, an event hosted by the event management class at New England College, is scheduled to be held October 28, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Henniker Brewing Company, off-campus.

Every year, the event management class is tasked with creating an event. This semester, the class decided to host a Halloween party at the local brewery.

“Our goal is to create an event that the student body will enjoy and attend,” said Sydni Geisler, a student in the event management class. “We interviewed the students to find out exactly what they want.”

Geisler said the students overwhelmingly wanted cheap drinks, so the class implemented a shuttle to and from the event, and every student who takes the shuttle will get a free drink voucher when they get to the brewery.

“It’s just a way to say please use our transportation,” she said. “We’re going to take measures to ensure everyone who does drink gets home safe, and to ensure nobody under 21 drinks.”

The brewery is less than 10 minutes away from campus on Centervale Road.

“We’re so excited to work with Henniker Brewing Company,” Geisler said. “It has a great outdoor space, and they have a great relationship with NEC.”

Geisler said the class is expecting a large turn-out. They’re hoping for at least one-hundred students. They also have a lot of support from the sports teams. She also said having the event on a Thursday shouldn’t affect the turn-out, and that it is actually perfect.

“NEC students don’t have classes on Fridays,” she said. “Thursdays are the new Fridays here.”

The event is a Halloween event, so wearing costumes is optional. There will also be raffles and prizes, cornhole, and, of course, music.

If students are interested in taking the shuttle, there is an interest form just to get a headcount for how many people are using it:

Geisler said the class is very excited for the event because it’s off-campus and because the Henniker Brewing Company has some really nice tasting beers.
