Day five saw the class start their day off at 7:45 a.m. as the class made their way to the de-militarized zone (DMZ). The class took a gondola over to a part of the DMZ called Camp Greaves. Camp Greaves has been home to U.S. troops for over 50 years since the Korean War and is also 2 kilometers from the Southern Limit Line.

During their time at the camp, the class stopped by a former bowling alley-turned-museum that displayed some history on the Korean War. One of the stories on display was a heartbreaking letter of a student soldier who addressed the letter to his mother.

The class’s next stop was at an observatory that stood right across from North Korea and was separated by a river that was 4,600 km. At the observatory, the class sat down and listened to the story of a former North Korean citizen who escaped the country by first going to China and staying there for a couple years before she finally found her way to South Korea.

To end the day, the class took a nice 20-minute ride on a boat where they were able to see Seoul from the water as wonderful music played for the ride. One of the bridges that the boat floated under known as Mapo Bridge was actually where Marvel filmed the bridge chase scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. A not so fun fact, however, is that this bridge is also infamously known as a place where people would unfortunately commit suicide. However, word of affirmation can be found on the bridge in an effort to prevent this.

Again, like always the class went for their last dinner of the trip to end the day.
