NEC basketball teams split double-header

NEC’s men’s basketball team suffered a loss to Middlebury College while the women’s team beat Worcester State on Nov. 28.

NEC senior guard Alissia Corona dropped 16 points to lead the ‘Grims, and had a block and two steals. Corona is also a member of The NewEnglander.

The ‘Grims defense was relentless as a team, they had 10 steals and two blocks.

At the end of the third quarter, it was a close game with the ‘Grims leading 49-46.

The ‘Grims pulled ahead in the fourth quarter, outscoring Worcester 27-10, leading them to victory.

The men’s team lost 80-70 to Middlebury College, behind Middlebury’s senior guard Evan Osher’s 26 points.

NEC’s graduate guard Jaden McGrew dropped 16 points to lead the ‘Grims, and junior Alex Williams had 12 points.

The ‘Grims were down ten at halftime, and went basket for basket with Middlebury in the second half putting up 43 total points.

NEC shot 50% from the field in the game, and 42.9% from deep.

The men’s basketball team is back in action for conference play against Anna Maria on Dec. 2 at home.

The women’s basketball team is back in action when they travel to Plymouth State on Nov. 30.
