NEC Men’s Basketball falls short to Saint Joseph’s in close game

The New England College Men’s Basketball team fell short in a face-paced home game against Saint Joseph’s College of Maine on Wednesday.

The ‘Grims were the underdogs as they headed into the game with a record of 3-14 while Saint Joseph’s was 14-3 for the season.

The ‘Grims came out hot, holding onto an early lead in the first half.  Players on both teams played at a high intensity throughout.

The ‘Grims held a short lead at halftime. Throughout the second half the game remained close, keeping the crowd excited as they looked to ruin a conference teams momentum ahead of the playoffs.

NEC Men’s Basketball suffered a close loss against Saint Joseph’s of Maine Wednesday.

With about eight minutes remaining, Saint Joseph’s started to pull away and took home a win with a final score of 77-70.

Head Coach Charlie Mason said he was impressed by the fight from the ‘Grims.

“I was proud of my guys tonight. They fought until the final whistle against one of the toughest conference teams we play,” he said.

“I want to make sure my younger guys finish these last few weeks for our seniors,” Mason said. “Our preparation for the rest of our season starts tomorrow”.   

Several of the Senior player’s were also impressed by the ‘Grims fight.

NEC Men’s Basketball suffered a close loss against Saint Joseph’s of Maine Wednesday.

 “The seasons not over yet, we have a lot of winnable games and we are looking to make a playoff push,” Alex Williams said.

 “I’m proud of the way the younger guys were stepping up tonight, this is one of the best teams we play in our conference so to see the younger guys step up is always awesome,” Theisan Lee said.

 “I’m happy with the way we fought against such a tough team but of course there’s always room to improve,” Nick Gomeau said.

The ‘Grims have seven games remaining in the season to fight for a playoff position.
