New England College women’s ice hockey team hosted Salve Regina University in the Lee Clement arena Saturday for the first annual Meghan Moore and Sidney Capolino Legacy Game.
The event was organized by Mackenzie Meegan, the current head coach of the ‘Grims, who coached Moore and Capolino during their time at NEC, wanted to bring alumni, family, and friends together to honor their memory.
Prior to the game, NEC held a ceremony of remembrance for two former pilgrims, Meghan Moore and Sidney Capolino, after their passing less than a year ago.
NEC athletic director Dave Decew said Moore and Capolino had an impact on the NEC Community.
“Meghan helped us out a lot in the [athletic] department,” Decew said. “She was a spirited individual. She had a lot of fun, she knew everyone, and she brought a lot of energy to campus.”
“Sidney was a tremendous student,” Decew said. “She was the type of person any coach would want to have.”
Family members of Moore and Capolino performed a ceremonial puck drop before the game.
Throughout the game, there was a table at the front of the ice rink selling memorabilia and all the proceeds went towards the Cape Cod scholarship foundation in honor of Meghan Moore. According to The Cape Cod Foundation, the scholarship is for “women who are graduating high school seniors from Cape Cod and have demonstrated dedication and hard work as a student-athlete. This scholarship honors Meghan’s remarkable legacy to empower future student-athletes.”
Fans were also able to buy pucks for a game of chuck-a-puck between the second and third period. The winner was awarded a $50 gift card and a throwback NEC jersey for getting the puck closest to center ice.
Scoring started early in the first period when Emily Wroblewski scored a goal for the Salve Regina Seahawks.

The ‘Grims answered back with less than two minutes left when Angelina De Divitiis tied the game 1-1.
The second period was filled with scoring starting with the Seahawks Samantha McKenzie taking a 2-1 lead. Just a few minutes later, Meadow Gilchrist tied the game back up at two. Just a minute later, McKenzie scored her second goal of the game to give the Seahawks the lead back. With less than two minutes remaining in the second period, Jordan Pond tied the game back up for the ‘Grims with her third goal of the season.
