New England College will be hosting a student showcase on April 23 where students of many majors will be sharing their work all over campus.
NEC held a similar event in the past called “Student Spotlight” which was held in the Simon Center Great Room for two hours twice a year; classes were scheduled on the day of Spotlight.
For this year’s event, classes are cancelled all day and presentations will be happening across campus.
“There’s gonna be students presenting from every division at the college. So, no matter what your major is, there’s likely going to be students presenting from that major,” said Biology and Health Science Professor Jim Newcomb.
NEC made this change this year to try and give the students more credit for their work.
“So, what we decided to do this year, to celebrate student academic success more was to make it once over the course of the year, instead of twice. But make it a full day. You’re here to do a bunch of different things, including academics, and there’s a lot of amazing things that students do, and we don’t get to hear about it,” Newcomb said.
There will be students presenting in the Tower building, Lyons Center, Simon Center, CEI building, Putnam Theatre, and the Chester Gallery.

“I’m presenting an education poster with a bunch of other kids who are doing their fieldwork placement. I’m also presenting my communications senior thesis, and I’ll be presenting a piece of artwork for my Text to Printmaking class,” said junior Lucas Woods, who will be presenting at the showcase.
This event is an opportunity for students to show off their work over the year.
“I’ve done a couple in the past for spotlight, and I’ve always really enjoyed being able to talk about my work and having people come up and be really interested in what I’m doing, and being able to kind of share that passion,” Woods added.
This is NEC’s first showcase event that is held all over campus and an all-day event.
