With the academic school year coming to an end, we say farewell to our dedicated Editor-in-Chief, Kyle Dobrie as he graduates with the class of 2025. He has been a member and writer for The NewEnglander for all four years at New England College. Kyle was nominated as Editor-in-Chief as a sophomore, a title that is usually granted to upperclassman.

During Kyle’s time leading The NewEnglander, the group took home several awards from The New Hampshire Press Association and The New England Newspaper & Press Association’s Better Newspaper Competition, New England’s largest journalism recognition program.

Kyle wrote an impressive number of stories. He conducted interviews with athletes, national politicians, and more. On more than one occasion, Kyle was selected to be a panelist alongside professional journalists during multiple political debates at New England College.

Kyle did research coming into college on what he wanted to pursue and understood that his personality would be a right fit for Communication Studies. He then knew it was the right path during his sophomore year when the NEC Communications program gained a new professor that he connected with. “I’m pretty good at talking and was good at presentations in high school, I might as well do this,” he said. “Honestly, it wasn’t until my sophomore year when Colleen McElveen really took over the Comm program that made me really fall in love with it and have a passion for it. I would say Colleen had a big influence on me and what I want to do for the rest of my life.”

Kyle says his time he’s spent, and experience that he’s gained from The NewEnglander and NEC’s communications program has prepared him for future goals and life after school. “I feel like NEC has definitely prepared me for my goals. I want to get into media production. I want to be a sports broadcaster. Putting together news stories for the newspaper, editing for the tv station, tracking my own stuff, going out getting the story hands on really helped me be ready for my future.”

No matter what direction Kyle ends up going, we know he will make us proud at The NewEnglander. We wish nothing less than the best for him!
