New England College business professor Dr. Carrie Colbert won the 2025 Kilgore Teacher of the Year Award. Each year, one faculty member is nominated by students, staff, and faculty. The surprise announcement was made during graduation by Pat Corbett, Vice President of Academic Affairs.
“I couldn’t help but think that the person she was describing was indeed “pretty awesome,” which speaks volumes about the exceptional faculty at NEC,” Colbert wrote on LinkedIn. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to those who nominated me.”
According to an email sent by Academic Affairs earlier in the year, the winner must meet several standards.
“In keeping with the New England College tradition of nurturing its students’ intellectual, personal and social growth, the College recognizes its most deserving faculty member by conferring a Teacher of the award.”
The recipient also must meet the following standard of teaching excellence: outstanding quality of work presented in the classroom, use of creative/innovative strategies to enhance student learning, high academic standards, involvement in the college outside of the classroom, and keeps current in their field.
Dr. Colbert has been at NEC since 2017. Prior to that, she worked as a marketing professional and then as an adjunct professor in California. Moving to New Hampshire in 2016, Dr. Colbert worked as an adjunct at the Daniel Webster College (now owned by Southern New Hampshire University). In 2017 Dr. Colbert became a full-time professor at NEC.
This is not the first time Dr. Colbert has received an award for teaching excellence. In the spring of 2024, she was recognized as the regional recipient of the 2024 Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Teaching Excellence Award. This award is given for excellence in teaching in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program.
Dr. Colbert teaches a number of classes on campus, some include leadership across border/culture, digital media marketing, and integrated marketing communications.
