Under the new Trump administration there has been a large effort to make changes regarding education. As these changes have been announced the conversation of how this could potentially affect New England College has been brought to light.
One of the potential changes proposed by President Trump is cutting the funding to all institutions that “allow illegal protests”. President Trump announced this via Truth Social in a message that read, “All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests. Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on on the crime, arrested. NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Despite this, NEC President Wayne Lesperance is encouraging students to continue to use their voice. “Students should be encouraged to speak out, to share their thoughts and ideas, they do it respectfully, and I think as long as we’re doing that, we don’t have a problem,” he said.
President Lesperance also reassured students that at this time NEC is not at risk for losing federal funding and that him and his staff are monitoring the situations closely.
